Goal:
To fix the “initialization failed” error message when starting the Scan Utility and the “System Extension Blocked” error during scanner driver installation
Step 1: During installation, the OS displays the following notification.
Step 2: You will be prompted to open the Security & Privacy window of System Preferences. If you are not prompted and see Initialization failed, you can access the Security & Privacy window by using the following steps:
- a. Click on the Apple logo on the top left and click on System Preferences.
- b. Click Security & Privacy.
Step 3: Toward the bottom of the Security & Privacy window, click the Allow button next to the prompt System software from developer “Avision Inc.” was blocked from loading.
Note:
The Allow button is only present in the Security & Privacy preferences pane for 30 minutes after installing the scanner driver. It reappears after OS restart, if it does not and you are still getting initialization failed message, refer to the bottom of this article to uninstall and reinstall the scan utility. If the Allow button still doesn’t appear, you will have to uninstall the scanner driver and reinstall. Call technical support at 1-800-648-0410 for instructions on uninstalling the driver.
Step 4: If system has multiple KEXT blocked, click the Allow button next to the prompt system software was blocked from loading, check “Avision Inc.” item and click the OK button. A message to reboot will be displayed. This is necessary to enable the KEXT.
